Somewhere in a closet is a garment that matters. Your grandfather's sport coat. Your father's suit. A Navy coat that crossed an ocean. It's too important to donate and too still to keep folded in the dark.
We deconstruct it by hand and remake it into a flat cap, cut and sewn one at a time by Jeremy at our bench in Reedsport, Oregon. The wool that kept him warm keeps you warm. The story stays in the family, and now it goes everywhere you go.
We recently did this for a Navy veteran. His coat became two caps: one for him, and one for his daughter, who serves in the Navy today. Father and daughter now wear the same coat.
How it works

Get the garment to us. Bring it to our bench inside the Creative Mercantile in Reedsport, or ship it to us from anywhere. After you order, we'll send you the shipping address and your order details.

We assess the fabric. When your garment arrives, we photograph it and confirm what it can become before a single cut is made, including whether there's enough for a matched pair. Most jackets yield two caps.

Jeremy makes. Every panel is cut from your fabric and sewn by hand. We line each cap in a variety of fabrics including silk or satin whenever the cap allows, and we can often use the garment's original lining details.

Your heirloom arrives. Gift boxed, with a story card recording the garment it came from and the date it was remade.
Before you send it

Please have the garment dry cleaned or freshly laundered before shipping. This protects your fabric during the work, and it protects every other family's garment in our studio. We cannot accept uncleaned garments.
- Ship with tracking, at your cost, and consider insurance if the garment is irreplaceable. We photograph every garment on arrival and confirm receipt with you the same day.
- Include your name and order number on a note inside the package.
Good candidates
Suit jackets, sport coats, overcoats, and peacoats in wool, tweed, linen, or corduroy. Not sure about yours? Message us a photo and we'll tell you honestly.
Timeline
Your cap is completed within 3 weeks of the day your garment arrives at our bench. Holiday orders: place your order by November 9 and have your garment to us by November 21 for guaranteed Christmas delivery. Ordering for a wedding, birthday, or another date? Tell us the date and we'll confirm before you commit.

One jacket is usually enough for two caps. Is there someone who should share this one? A father and son. A veteran and the one who followed. Two people, one coat, one story.
